A kind of youth summit took place at the beginning of the Austrian presidency of the EU: the young people talked about their ideas and wishes for Europe.

Potential partners and sponsors could get more information about the work of the organisation at an open day that also took place. There was also a flash mob of European young people at the main sqare in Neumarkt.

“EYFON is to be understood as a meeting place for the youth of Europe. The European idea of peace and togetherness may be old, but a glance at what is going on in the world shows that the idea of a peaceful and solidary Europe is more topical and necessary than ever! It is up to the young people of Europe to shape this path to a secure, peaceful, and stable future. EYFON should contribute to making Europe more tangible for them”, says EYFON President Christoph Leitl.

“We give young people the opportunity to feel Europe with all their senses and shape its future together,” points out EYFON CEO Christian Buchmann.

200 Jugendliche aus mehr als 10 europäischen Ländern diskutierten zum Start des EU-Vorsitzes Österreichs bei EYFON, dem Europäischen Jugendforum Neumarkt, die Zukunft Europas
Zum Start der österreichischen EU-Ratspräsidentschaft fand im steirischen Neumarkt eine Art Gipfeltreffen der europäischen Jugend statt: Im Rahmen der neuen Initiative EYFON – die Abkürzung steht für European Youth Forum Neumarkt (Europäisches Jugendforum Neumarkt) – sind seit Ende Juni rund 200 Jugendliche aus mehr als 10 Ländern auf der Europa-Burg im steirischen Neumarkt, um sich über die Europäische Union zu informieren und ihre Vorstellungen, Wünsche und Ideen zur Zukunft Europas zu diskutieren. Im Rahmen eines Informationstages konnten sich Kooperationspartner und Sponsoren am Mittwoch ein Bild von den Aktivitäten von EYFON machen. Zudem fand am Nachmittag am Hauptplatz in Neumarkt ein Flashmob der europäischen Jugendlichen statt.
„EYFON versteht sich als Begegnungsstätte für die europäische Jugend. Der Europagedanke des Friedens und Zusammenhaltes mag alt sein, aber ein Blick auf das Weltgeschehen zeigt: Die Idee eines friedlichen und solidarischen Europa ist aktueller – und notwendiger – denn je! Es liegt an der europäischen Jugend, diesen Weg in eine gesicherte, friedliche und stabile Zukunft zu gestalten. EYFON soll dazu beitragen, Europa für die Jugend spürbar zu machen “, betont EYFON-Präsident Christoph Leitl.
Die europäische Jugendinitiative EYFON wurde heuer Anfang März aus der Taufe gehoben. Ab 2019 sollen jährlich 1000 junge Menschen aus ganz Europa von Mai bis Oktober auf der Europaburg Forchtenstein in Neumarkt in der Steiermark – im Schnittpunkt von Nord-, Süd-, Ost- und Westeuropas – zu Europaseminaren, Info-Tagen und anderen europäischen Foren zusammenkommen, wobei der Fokus auf Jugendlichen aus Ost- und Südosteuropa liegt. Am Programm stehen Fachvorträge und Workshops ebenso wie Freizeitaktivitäten. „Wir geben den jungen Menschen die Möglichkeit, Europa mit allen Sinnen zu erleben und gemeinsam an der Zukunft Europas zu basteln“, unterstreicht EYFON-Geschäftsführer Christian Buchmann.
